EU institutions and Member States reached a political agreement for the new Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation in March after more than a year of intense negotiations.

Despite the unprecedented levels of lobbying from the single use packaging industry, which led to a text less ambitious than the one originally proposed by the Commission in November 2022, refill and reuse measures have been introduced for the first time to tackle the ever-increasing amount of packaging waste we generate in Europe. Policymakers, industry, and third sector representatives will discuss the implications of the PPWR provisions and what the impact will be for the refill and reuse sectors.
